First things first.
Make your list of gifts – for Mom? Grandma? A special woman in your life who has filled in when you needed some tender support? Are you going to be shopping for kids to give Mom?
Then set a tentative budget. We have hundreds of great gifts, for every budget.
For each recipient, decide if it's a gift she will wear every day, or something for a special occasion.
Now you’re ready to follow these tips to make a great choice she’s sure to love:
Tip #1: Take a look in her jewelry box, at photos, or when you’re together. What color(s) metal does she usually wear or mostly own? White (silver, white gold, platinum), yellow gold, mixed (two-tone or tricolor)? This should be your guide to the right metal to choose for your gift, no matter whether everyday or fancy.
Tip #2: For Moms and Grandmas, consider a birthstone charms necklace. These are so special, with a charm for each child’s birthstone, and can be added to over the years. Fun and personalized at the same time.
Tip #3: If she has trouble operating clasps and closures, or you’re just not sure of the right size or length, we’ve got the perfect solutions: stretchy bracelets, necklaces that easily slip over the head, or earrings with open wires. No fuss and sure to please!
Tip #4: If you’re thinking of gifting something she will wear for a special occasion, try to imagine the colors she is likely to wear. Build your choice around that. If she’s bought a midnight blue dress for a wedding that’s on your calendar, sapphires and/or diamonds are usually the right look.
Tip #5: For a gift she will wear every day, is she a jeans-and-T kind of Mom? If so, keep it casual. Consider a twisted cable, link or stretchy bracelet, or add with a look to a stack she already owns. Or go with a simple pendant at a length that will fit just below the neckline. Simple on-ear studs or hoops are great choices too.
If she has a job that involves wearing something less casual, or she likes to look finished and ready for a luncheon, consider something a bit more sparkly. A diamond pendant, a classic bracelet, or dangle earrings or pearl studs, might be just the thing.
Tip #6: If you’re thinking of earrings, make sure she has pierced ears. For new moms, it's best to choose on-the-lobe earrings that tiny hands won't grab. For women who don’t have pierced ears, choose a clip-only earring, or an ear cuff – currently on trend and easy to wear.
Tip #7: Especially important: Do your best to not duplicate what’s already in her jewelry box. That doesn’t mean you can’t choose something that will “go with” that favorite!
